Grape-Vine MAY 2003

Submissions for the next issue of Grapevine by 15th May, please.

If it’s been typed, sending copy by email or floppy disc results in a tidier magazine and allows correction of typing errors we may spot.

A soft breeze blows

Throughout the trees

And birds sing high above

The humming of the busy bees

These are sounds I love

What a blessed person

You will someday be

If I can return just half

Of what you give me

I love you, I love you

I do, I do

But don’t get excited

I love others too

Alpha @ Garlinge

We will be running an Alpha Course (or courses) starting in September, the times and venues will be chosen by the people who come along to the course. These times will be completely flexible and suited to all individuals or groups. Please try and take advantage of the flexibility offered and encourage friends and family to come along.

Fair Trading

Fair Trading is alive and kicking in Garlinge! At the moment, the goods are available for sale only on coffee mornings. If you require anything at any other time, please contact Bob Buchanan, who will make arrangements to meet your requirements. If goods are not available, a quick scan of the catalogue can rectify this. Catalogues are available for your use at any time.

Union

A party of ten friends from the Rayalaseema Diocese of the church of South India will be in the Canterbury District of the URC from May 24th until May 28th. They will be visiting various churches and it is possible that they may look in on our flower festival on the 24th (the day they arrive). The URC Moderator of the Southern Province Synod, Rev Nigel Uden, paid a visit to India from Dec 7th‑21st 2002. The partnership between the Rayalaseema Diocese and the URC Southern Synod is very precious and highly valued. See the very interesting report on Union Church notice board.

Family News

Both Alistair and Judy are making progress

Lynne Allen has been feeling a little better

Lucy Nash continues to have problems with her breathing

Doris Jackson is staying with her daughter following her knee operation

Douglas Bush has been suffering from a chest infection and Moira faces hospital treatment

Jeremi has suffered the loss of a cousin

Rene King has had a lot of pain in her back

We remember Jean Manton and the family. Ralph passed away on April 31st. We assure them of our continued prayers and for all our sick friends.

Ralph Manton

Jean and the family would like to say thank you to everyone for their support following the recent death of Ralph. It is all your prayers and concern along with the many cards and flowers that we have received that have helped us through this painful time.

It was lovely to see the church full for the funeral. We would like to thank all who helped, the ‘army’ of people who went in the night before and cleaned, those who helped with the catering, those running around making sure that all went well; too many people to name individually but without whom we could not have managed.

We would especially like to thank Geoff for his support throughout Ralph’s short illness and following his death; he has given us great strength.

Thank you

Jean, Debbie, Liz and families

For All

The scent of flowers

All around

Heads nodding in the breeze

Blue skies and fluffy clouds above

A picture made to please

Forget your cares and worries

On such a peaceful day

Spring in all its glory

Thank God when you pray

Your Home

Never be shy of inviting folk back

Because of the luxuries that you may lack

Better be frank than be known as a fraud

And be proud of the home that your purse can afford

Text Box: But far more wonderful than this
Is to see what smiles can do
You smile at one
And they smile at you
And so one smile makes two

Text Box: True-hearted
Whole-hearted
Faithful ever be
And if you really wish it
Your friend I’ll always be

When making new friends

Forget not the old

The new ones are silver

But the old ones are gold

A smile is quite a funny thing

It wrinkles up your face

And when it’s gone, you’ll never find

Its sweet hiding place
